Behind the scenes at the BDC lab, research assistants (RAs) are doing many tasks to contribute to our research projects. RAs play a large role in data collection, parent interaction, task scoring, transcription, and outreach. See below to see what our RAs do to help make research run!

Diagnosing developmental language disorder (DLD) in children can be a challenge, and sentence repetition and nonword repetition are tools that can aid identification. While these tools have been well-researched in English, what about its accuracy and reliability in Vietnamese?
This semester the BDC lab has launched the Transcription project! We are transcribing language samples we collected using Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT) software. SALT conventions are followed during this stage. This process allows for the creation of standard LSA reports.
Developmental language disorder (DLD) is a language impairment that cannot be explained by any other condition (such as hearing loss or autism). DLD affects a person'a ability to use, understand, and learn language. It is a common developmental disorder, affecting 1 in 14 children that emerges in childhood. The disorder can have long-term effects on their academic, personal, and professional life.
DLD is often diagnosed inaccurately among bilingual speakers. The BDC lab is committed to serving bilingual families and children with and without language disorders.
