DLD is a communication disorder that cannot be explained by any other condition. It is one of the most common developmental disorders, impacting 1 in 14 children in kindergarten. However, it is difficult to identify. DLD can affect a child’s speech, comprehension, reading, and writing. The disorder first emerges in childhood and can have long-term effects on someone’s academic, personal, and professional life. That said, treatment and support are available!

Bilingual children are frequently over- and under-identified with DLD. At the BDC lab, we are committed to serving bilingual families and children with and without language disorders.

The Bilingual Development in Context Lab is dedicated to investigating bilingual children who speak Vietnamese or Spanish at home.
